Level 1 - 200 hours “Living Yoga” Teacher Training
This program provides a foundation of yoga practice and philosophy, enabling graduates to competently and safely teach dynamic group and private yoga classes. It is split into four 50-hour modules, forming a comprehensive experience of self-growth.
Module 1
Module 1 introduces BodyMindLife’s foundational subject, Living Yoga, and our unique philosophy: the 5 Pillars of Health and Wellbeing. This creates a blue-print for building lasting health and wellbeing, and a foundation for participants to start their journey into authentic teaching. Students are also introduced to the History and Philosophy of Yoga through an overview of the major texts, including Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. Module 1 is also recommended as a lifestyle program for those who may not necessarily want to teach yoga, but would like to discover a healthier and more harmonious way of living.
Module 2
Module 2 covers Yoga Asana, the physical aspect of yoga which incorporates the use of postures. Students will learn the function and benefits of the major yoga asanas, as well as the safety aspect and how to modify and vary the practice to suit the needs of individual students. This module also incorporates Applied Anatomy specific to the practice of yoga asana. Here we look at the basic movement patterns of the human body, and address a range postural dysfunctions and injuries commonly encountered in yoga classes.
Module 3
Module 3 introduces the science of Yoga Class Sequencing, an art and skill that allows yoga teachers to design effective yoga classes based on the principle of “Vinyasa Krama”, or intelligent sequencing. This is enhanced by learning powerful teaching techniques such as demonstration, conscious communication, languaging and voice. We also look at Creating the Ritual of a Class, tying together the many limbs of yoga (asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, intention and attitude) into an experience that takes students on a transformational journey of heart, body and mind.
Module 4
Module 4 focuses on Relationship Building – creating relationships of trust and empowerment with your students. We look at cultivating the teacher-student relationship through mutuality and respect. One of the most effective and beneficial ways a teacher can relate to their students is through the medium of touch. This is discovered through the Art of Assisting and Adjusting, whereby participants learn to physically adjust yoga postures, increasing the benefit and function of the asanas, while supporting and nurturing their students’ growth.
This module also includes Yin, Meditation and Restorative Practices, which focus on balancing the autonomic nervous system to bring about a greater sense of harmony and wellbeing. Finally, our Professional Yoga Teacher course looks at the “business” side of yoga teaching, and includes establishing ethical boundaries, marketing and promotion, and building referral networks amongst holistic professionals.
